Beau Jest
James Sherman’s Romantic Comedy set to open in January
GILBERT, AZ (December 10, 2009) Hale Theater is ready to reprise James Sherman’s comical and romantic play, Beau Jest with one of the valleys favorite actors, Eric Thompson. Directed by Lori Towne, Beau Jest will open New Year’s Eve and play through February 13th.
James Sherman has written an affectionate ,very funny portrayal of family life, which first opened off-Broadway in 1992 and played for two years. It is the story of Sarah Goldman, a kindergarten teacher, who in an effort to hide from her mother that she has a gentile boyfriend hires an out of work actor to come to a family dinner party. Bob, every Jewish mother’s dream son-in-law, a wealthy surgeon, is happy to help with the rituals of the Passover. Sarah’s horror at discovering that Bob is no more Jewish than her real boyfriend is only slightly allayed by Bob’s reassurance that, having once had a role in Fiddler on the Roof, he knows one end of a menorah from the other.
The Hale Theatre is once again excited to have Eric Thompson as Bob. Eric is a trained Shakespearian actor having recently moved to Mesa from Los Angeles. He was nominated for an AriZoni award for his portrayal of Max in last years Lend Me A Tenor and also played in the charming She Loves Me in October. Eric is a writer in which he earned the Audience Choice Award and Best Short Comedy Award at the New York Independent International Film Festival.
