Dorman Smith Returns to Hale as This Year’s Scrooge!
GILBERT, AZ (October 28th, 2009) Hale Theatre announced today the return of Dorman Smith as Scrooge in Dickens’ Classic, A Christmas Carol Opening December 3 and running through December 23rd.
Dorman Smith has been a long standing actor in the East Valley. His acting credits are numerous. Some of his favorites acting roles include: Zach in A Chorus Line, The King in Big River, Dr Keller in The Miracle Worker, the captain in Mister Roberts, and Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Dorman appeared as Abe in the Hale Theatres’ opening show Beau Jest, followed by his role as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady. Dorman has directed many productions, Diary of Anne Frank, Nunsense, Company and Mame stand out for the critical acclaim they received.
David Dietlein, Producer / Director for this years A Christmas Carol says, “We are privileged to have Dorman Smith re-create the role of Scrooge again this year. His understanding of Scrooge adds depth to his character and he is better than ever!”
Dorman grew up in Southern California and became interested in acting while in junior high school where he performed in several school plays. While in High School, he had a weekly radio show on a local radio station and did voice over work for a weekly Saturday morning children’s radio show. After graduating from college with a BS Degree in Business Management, he once again was bitten by the acting bug. He took numerous acting classes in the Los Angeles area and at local colleges as well.
Dorman has the pleasure of being retired from California city government, where he held an administrative position. He has been married to his wife, Barbara for 38 years. He has three children and six grandchildren. In addition to acting, he is grateful to spend time painting, sculpting and working in ceramics.
Michael Bryce will also perform the part of Scrooge on Saturday matinees.
A Christmas Carol will play Monday through Saturday at 7:30 with 3:00 PM Saturday matinees beginning December 3rd and playing through December 23rd. Prices range from $17.00 to $25.
