Christmas Carol 2009

HALE CENTRE THEATRE TO OPEN CHARLES DICKEN’S CLASSIC, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO CHANGE!

GILBERT, AZ (November 16th, 2009) The Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert presents Award winning Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol beginning on December 1st and playing through December 23rd.

Christmas? Bah, humbug! Ebenezer Scrooge meant what he said. A cold hearted thought during the most warm–hearted and merry time of the year! Visits from three ghosts help Scrooge to see the light and change his ways. This wonderful, optimistic Christmas message reminds us that, "It is never too late to change." The human spirit is capable of renewal and its hopeful message has earned a place of honor in the hearts of generations. This Dickens' classic is a must-see every holiday season.

Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, and the lively carolers will put you in the perfect holiday mood! Hale's traditional dramatization of Ebenezer Scrooge's life-changing Christmas Eve is entertaining, captivating, and touching. Bring your family and enjoy the spirit of the holidays in our retelling of this classic story.

Considered the "Best Christmas show in the Valley" by East Valley Tribune and winner of 4 AriZoni awards, this year's production is expected to exceed last years accolades. Dorman Smith, Hales Scrooge of last season, honors the valley with his performance once again. Mickey Bryce, (AriZoni winner for best actor for Fiddler on the Roof) will play Scrooge on Saturday matinees.

Producer/Director David Dietlein says, "Expect some fun changes, a few surprises, some beautiful a cappella music…..and perhaps a little seasonable snow!" Little did Charles Dickens know when he wrote this 'ghostly little tale' for his children, that it would become one of the most loved Christmas classics of all time," said director David Dietlein. "It grows more relevant each year as the world becomes more caught up in materialism," added Dietlein. For over one-hundred and sixty years, this story of salvation has touched people – kindling the regrets in their lives, the choices they made, the losses they cannot reclaim. A Christmas Carol shows each of us how the spirit of holidays can be lived each day of the year. “Ticket sales are exceeding our expectations this year, patrons should call now to ensure seating."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol in 1843 as he wandered the foggy streets of in 1843. Each night as the story took shape in his head. The story, in part, from his own unhappy childhood memories.

As a boy Charles Dickens knew what it was like to be poor. His father plunged his family deep into debt and they were forced to sell their possessions to pay creditors. At age twelve, Charles was sent to work in a boot-blacking factory. Later his father was thrown into debtor’s prison. Charles lived in cheap lodgings near his job. He lived alone, finding ways to feed himself on the little he earned. After several months, a small inheritance rescued Charles’ father from prison. It was still many weeks before Charles was freed from his dreary job and allowed to attend school.

It’s believed Dickens knew the story would be popular – so well-received in fact that he refused to sell the rights to his publishers and had the story self-published. A natural storyteller – he gave abridged public readings of the story – donating his performance fees to charity.
