She Loves Me Press Release
Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick's She Love's Me Coming to the Main Stage!
August 18th, 2009
GILBERT, AZ (September 30, 2008)- Hale Theatre is ready to deliver one of the most romantic musicals ever written with two of the valley's heavy-hitting actors. Directed by Lori Towne, She Love's Me starts September 3th and runs through October 10th on the Hale stage.
Jerry Bock & Sheldon Harnick's She Loves Me is based in a more innocent time, long before You've got Mail, lived George (Eric Thompson) and Amalia (Alaina Beauloye). They're two lonely, feuding clerks, toiling in a 1930's European perfumery, at a time when the unfolding of love was never an instant message. Their only solace comes in the form of anonymous, romantic letters from their lonely hearts club pen-pals. How could they have ever guessed the letters were from each other? This funny, heartwarming musical, from the songwriting team that gave us Fiddler on the Roof debuted in the spring of 1963, perhaps Broadway's last year of innocence.
It is the rare musical theatre aficionado who doesn't have a soft spot in his heart for this intimate show, considered by many the most charming musical ever written. Funny, intelligent, honest and sentimental, She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia, yet as universal and relevant as ever in this age of internet romances.
Hale Theatre is proud to have Eric Thompson as George. Eric is a trained Shakespearian actor having just completed working in Los Angeles, and has recently moved to Mesa Arizona. He was just nominated for an AriZoni award for his portrayal of Max in this season's Lend Me A Tenor. He is also a writer where Eric earned the Audience Choice Award and Best Short Comedy at the New York Independent International Film Festival. Eric was nominated as best actor and best writer in the regional film festival as Malvolio. Alaina Beauloye (Amalia) has been acting professionally since she was a child. Alaina worked on Broadway in the 80's then took time off to come to Arizona where she met her husband. After a seven year hiatus Alaina was in Little Shop of Horrors where she received Outstanding Actress and Outstanding Female Vocalist Awards for the role of Audrey. Alaina recently received an AriZoni nomination for Best Female Actress for the role of Anna in The King and I at Hale Theatre. Alaina does TV commercials, plays and film here in the Valley and hosts the local TV show Maricopa Now.
She Loves Me is considered one of the most romantic musicals ever written from nine-time Tony Award winner Sheldon Harnick (Lyrics), Jerry Bock (Music), and Joe Masteroff (Book). Hale Theatre will bill this show as "The show of Romance." Popular show tunes came from this show such as: "She Loves Me," "Tonight at Eight," and "Vanilla Ice Cream."
